Demographics and Psychographics

 1) What information do media companies use to create a demographic profile of their audience?

Class, age, gender, income, race/ethnicity.

2) Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics?

It targets a specific group of people which makes it easier for them.

3) What are the seven different Pychographic groups? 

Mainstreamer, aspirer, explorer, reformer, succeeder, resigned, struggler.

4) Write a brief summary of what each Psychographic group is seeking or motivated by.

The mainstreamers will less likely take risks, the are 40% of the population, they enjoy and trust brands that are value for money and they seek security.

The aspirers want status brands, they are happy to invest into luxury goods, they consider themselves stylish and they seek status.

The explorers like to discover new things ad they are attracted to new brands or products and they seek discovery.

The reformers seek self-improvement, they aren't influenced by status, they are socially aware and want products that are good for the environment and they seek enlightenment.

The succeeders believe they deserve the best, they often choose brands ad products based on reliability and they seek control

The resigneds are older people who built up their attitudes over a long period of time, they believe in traditions they have grown to trust and they seek control.

The strugglers don't think too much about the future, they think of themselves as victims or they are attracted to junk foods alcohol or gimbaling and they seek escape.


5) What psychographic group or groups do YOU belong in? Think about your own interests and lifestyle and explain your decision. Remember, you may fit into two or three different groups! 

I think I belong in the mainstream psychographic group.
