Promotional device: to sell the band or artists music
Editing and sound: footage is usually edited to match the music

The 1980s as big budgets were spent on them and they were shown on television

MTV was launched in 1981 which made music videos important as it meant that they were shown on tv
5) How are music videos distributed and watched in the digital age?
Music videos are distributed and watched by YouTube or other video and streaming platforms we now have a place to easily watch music videos but due to streaming services like Spotify we tend to listen to music and not watch music videos
